Caliber Training, LLC, based in San Luis Obispo County, is dedicated to equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective firearm operation, particularly for those considering concealed carry. Founded by Bryan Lentz and his daughter Abby Lentz, both NRA certified Firearms Instructors and California POST Certified firearms instructors/Range Masters, Caliber Training brings over two decades of training experience and a passion for firearms education.

Course Details
Our classes cover a wide range of topics, from legal considerations to practical shooting skills. Highlights include:

Hands-On Learning: Practical exercises reinforce classroom learning, ensuring a thorough understanding of the material.

Range Qualification: You’ll participate in a qualification course designed to assess your proficiency in various scenarios. We provide guidance on selecting appropriate holsters and carrying methods.

Convenient Location: All classes are held at the SLO Sportsmen’s Association Range facility, conveniently located in San Luis Obispo.
Qualification and Required Equipment
​​DESCRIPTION OF QUALIFICATION COURSE: This course will be fired in 5 stages. After each portion of the course, the shooter will be allowed to reload their firearms with fresh magazines/speed loaders etc. to prepare for the next stage of the qualification. Load all magazines/ speed loaders to full capacity prior to the start of the qualification.

Stage I - 3 yards - 2 rounds - Draw and fire 2 rounds at Center Mass in 7 seconds

Stage II - 5 yards - 9 rounds - Draw and fire 2 rounds at Center Mass and 1 round to the head in 10 seconds (3x)

Stage III - 7 yards - 4 rounds - Draw and fire 2 rounds to one target and 2 rounds to an adjacent target in 15 seconds

Stage IV - 10 yards - 6 rounds - Draw and fire 3 rounds at center mass in 15 seconds (2x)

Stage V - 15 yards. - 3 rounds - Draw and fire 3 rounds at center mass in 20 seconds

The following guidelines help keep the qualification process moving quickly for the benefit of all students!

BRING A HOLSTER OR CARRY METHOD FOR EACH GUN with correct caliber of ammunition (24 rounds for each qualification course you shoot).

It is a requirement for the approved qualification course of fire that you:

Must have a holster or other appropriate carry method and know how to properly use it.

If you do not have an appropriate carry method on the day of the class, you will not be able to qualify on the day of the class!

If you do not currently have a carry method, email us and we will help you find something that is acceptable.

BRING ENOUGH MAGAZINES TO LOAD OUT FOR THE ENTIRE COURSE OF FIRE for each gun (3 magazines).

DO NOT BRING JUST ONE (1) LOW CAPACITY MAGAZINE.
